The "R" series are special models of the high pressure turbo variants of the 800 and S/V70 cars. They come in one special color which can only be obtained with the R version. Usually you may choose between 3-5 other colors but usually the unusuall "R" color is choosen. The "R" cars features  except for full options of accessories a few specific ones such as, front "R" spoiler, "R" rims and special interia with leather and Alcantara. Below is the diffrent "R" cars listed by year model. The -95 T-5R is still considered as the one and only true "R" car produced...

 

1995 This yellow T-5R was the first "R-line" from Volvo and it was a huge hit from the start. The car was from the start limited to only 2.500 copies and only in this yellow color. As the car was such an success Volvo decided to build more cars of this sports limousine wich gave you the option to choose either a green or black one.

From the start this car was only a test to se if there was any interest in buying a high performance car from Volvo and never before had Volvo gotten such attention. Now Volvo wasn´t only known for boxy style design and safe cars.

The car is fully equipped with specials as 17" alloys called "Titan" and seats covered with leather and Ameretta.

There were also built a few white pearl T-5R:s that were  pre-production T-5R cars. These cars were originally built for testing the engines and chassies when increasing the power in the 850 turbo. Just before the launch of the "real" T-5R:s a few of the white pearl cars were built and shipped to a few dealers for showcars. These cars are therefore very rare.

1996/97 This is the -96 and -97 years model of the succesfull T-5R but it changed name to R instead. The car was added 10 extra hp with the manual gearbox. They achived this by optimizing the ECM (Engine Control Module). 

The car was now limited to 250 km/h due to the Germans demans that any sportscar must have a top speed at at least 250 km/h as the BMW M5 and Mercedes AMG models etc. 

The car was off course fully equipped with special features as 17" alloys called "Volans", rear r-wing and seats with leather and Alcantara. The car was only available with the special "Flamröd" ("Flame red") and black color.

1998 The -98 R-car got the new "facelift" and had the same engine as the -97 R. This year you could also get the AWD (All Wheel Drive) model with the stationwagon called V70R AWD this version had the 240 hp engine as the automatic equipped cars. 

The car is fully equipped with special 17" alloys  called "Comet" on the front wheel drive versions and 16" alloys called "Meteor" on the AWD models. Special features is aluminum panels and seats with leather and Alcantara. 

The colors available is "Saffron", Black, Silver- and Blue metallic.

1999/00 The -99 R-car is now only available as a stationwagon and in AWD mode with automatic transmission. The engine now produces 250 hp and 310 Nm. The available colors are now: Laser blue, Classic red, Black, Silver, Cassis, Dark olive pearl.

The only new features on the car is the new alloys 16", Solar and 17" called  Satellite. The new steeringwheel is coarser and sportier otherwise it´s the same car as the -98.

The -00 R-car is nearly the same car as the -99 except for some features and upgrades. Now you could also choose the interia in two color leather trim. The engine  was increased in volume and tuned to 265hp/350 Nm and there was as it was intended from the start now 2 end tail pipes.
