In this page I shall try to give you a short description why I like this comics. I have a long relation to comic strips. All the way from Donald Duck, Superman, Batman and above all Illustrated Classics.
As I grew up I think I lost connection with special comic strips and started to read them in the papers. That is how I found these 3 stripes. They are all in my daily newspaper Göteborgs Posten. It has not always been like this but currently it is. I have changed some times so probably they will not be favourites forever.
For each strip below there is a picture and a short description of the comic strip.
If you click on the picture you will be linked to the homepage of that strip.
Probably you can read an old episode there and see if you like it.
It has taken me some time to become a friend of this strip. But now I read as much as I can of it. The story is about an american family (typical perhaps) with mum, dad and three children.
The two oldest children (a boy and a girl) are very tired of school. The youngest boy is the opposite. His favourite pet is a lizard and he loves to tease his sister. He also loves science fiction, action movies and computers.
All this makes up for great fun. Take a look.
Calvin lives in a fantasyworld where his tiger becomes real. Hobbe is a very lazy tiger mostly a cat but sometimes he becomes a furious wild animal.
What is so funny about that?
Well above all I think it is a cartoon that is drawn in a beautiful way. All the expressions in above all Hobbe's character are wonderful.
His name is Bud Grace and sometimes he gets in to the strip. There was something when he thought that Hilary Clinton was in love with him.
Ernie is not always the headcharacter. Often his uncle Sid and all his companions from the PiranhaClub takes the lead. They are totally lack of scruples.
The PiranhaClub has got its name after a piranha who eats anything. I think that is an metaphor to the characters in the club. As I mentioned earlier they don't hesitate for anything except work.
Typical are the professions used carseller, a doctor, a priest and so on.
I think that octopussy's also have aa leading role sometime. At least Sid's hostess loves to cock extraordinary meals for him.
