            About me...

Hej! I’m Ruby, a Congo African Grey Parrot. The picture up the top is my baby photo. I was born in western Sweden in March 1999. When I was four months old I adopted my pet humans, Marre and Cassie. I enjoy living with them and I shake my tail feathers often to show this. We live together in Stockholm.

Every day my pet humans allow me 2-3 hours playtime outside my cage (more if I can bribe them). They bought a nice wine-rack from IKEA for me which I like very much, especially to sit on while showing off and to chew it (as well as the toys that hang from it). To play with they give me toilet rolls, bottle tops, photocopy paper, plastic keys, bells, wooden building blocks, fruit flavoured blocks and little tree trunks, a toothbrush (which they said was only for me to use), a comb (so I don’t "destroy" Marre’s), a computer disk, a coconut shell, beads and plastic links. I’ve also discovered that if I try to catch Cassie’s pen while she’s writing she will give me the pen lid! Although I get into trouble sometimes I really like to chew remote controls, my pet humans’ jewellery, buttons on their clothes, Cassie’s computer keyboard, Marre’s wristwatch and many more chewable things that are in my beak’s reach. I also have some nice curved branches that Cassie and Marre retrieved from the woods and a big ladder that I like to walk up and sit on the top of.

While I’m outside my cage I like to sit on top of the bookshelf in my room which my pet humans also call their "living room". They set up a nice branch there for me. I also like to sit on top of the door in my room. I sit up there and keep an eye on my pet humans or practice my vocabulary and singing. Cassie and Marre don’t believe I talk much yet. But I know I do. They just don’t understand my parrot accent yet! You can see for yourself in my sound gallery.

The only thing I really do hate is when the TV in on in my room. It’s good to help me study my vocabulary (in both Swedish and English), but I find that my pet humans’ attention goes straight from me to the TV. I still think I’m much better looking than the TV. They have plenty of time to watch the TV!

Presently, I don’t have my wings clipped because I’m still only young, so my pet humans let me fly around. Even though I’m a climbing bird I love to fly around very much. This is especially useful when they bath me. I hate having baths very much so I can just fly away when water comes to me and then be wrapped in a big towel. But as it comes closer to the Summer and when I’m older my pet humans said I would get my wings clipped. They said this is for my own safety, but I don’t know. I hope they know what they’re doing. But they also say that in the future I may be able to go on picnics and vacations with them around Sweden. Image that! I guess it will probably be easier to take me places if I can’t fly. I’d hate them to lose me just because they can’t fly!

My absolute favourite food is banana. When I’m outside my cage my pet humans always seem to eat it. They never give me my own banana, so I get some of theirs…I even help them peel it so I get the best part, which I choose myself. I also like foods such as grapes, mashed potato, corn, apple, pear, tomato, rockmelon, cucumber, berries and a few more yummy things. I also like seeds a lot, but my vet told my pet humans that seeds are too fattening for parrots. Unfortunately for me they went along with her, so I’m not allowed to have any. But at least they can’t eat seed in front of me like they can with alcoholic drinks, chocolate and avocado. I don’t think it’s very fair, but apparently these kinds foods are toxic for parrots.

I think that sums up all about me. I'll soon have my photo album finished. Hej då!
