Construction and technology

Norseman is a light, high winged transport airplane, which in principle is a pure fackverks construction. The fuselage consists of a framework by welded steel tubes, alloyed with chrome-molybdenum. The framework is covered with canvas onto wood stringers. The engine and nose are however covered by detachable dural plates.
The wings are buildt up by beams and spryglar of wood, and then covered with canvas. The front edges of the wings are buildt by duralminium, covered with canvas. The wings are fixed to the fuselage with bolts and also with V-props in profiled steel tubes, which are steadied to the undercarriage. Even the tailplane is buildt by wood and canvas, and is steadied to the body with the help of cables. The fin and all rudders are steel tube frameworks, covered with canvas. The flaps are also buildt by steel tubes and canvas, and at a half of full flaps, they take the ailerons with them, and get the function of so-called "aileron flaps".
The undercarriage, which is the typical for Norseman and later was imitated of the followers DHS Otter and Beaver, is stationary and furnished with air- oil shock absorber. These are easy to dismantle by loosen two bolts and then the plane can be equipped with EDO-floats or skiis. The sporrhjul is fixed but can be exchanged for a ski if the plane is equipped with skiis.
The engine is a Pratt & Whitney R-1340-AN-1 that develops 600 hp at take off and at 2,250 rpm. Marching power is 550 hp at 2,200 rpm (maximum), at 5,000 feet (1,524 m).
The airplane usually had a twinblade propeller, however in the Swedish airforce the plane even was supplied with a threeblade.
