Salsa Modules

A big effort has been done making the system highly modular. The modular architecture makes it easy to implement new functions and to update existing functions in the system. Also will the modular architecture make it possible to fine tune the system for each unique customer. Actually is it the modules that will do most of the work in the Salsa-system.
There are also two kinds of modules: Product Extensions and Plugins. The Product Extensions adds support for different product types, for example single page separated or 4-Up separated. This means that all products in a workflow can use the same database and the same resources. The Plugins adds functions to the Salsa-system. For example could a Plugin generate a report and send the report to a printer or an external database when a product has been completed.

Product Extension Modules

There are five Product Extensions Modules available today. These modules adds functionality to handle different types of products. For example will the 2-Up Separated module page pair separated pages into one print form. The module will create, edit, delete and maintain the product in the Salsa-system. The 2-Up Separated will maintain all page paired products in the database and create the actual page pairing.

1-Up Composite	This module will maintain single pages that are composite. Typically used in a PDF workflow for single pages. Elements (saved as EPS or TIFF) can be added to each page before sent for output.
1-Up Separated	The module will handle single pages that are separated. Elements (saved as EPS or TIFF) can be added to each separation before sent for output.
2-Up Separated	Will do page pairing for separated pages. Elements (saved as EPS or TIFF) can be added to each separation before sent for output.
2-Up Composite	Will do page pairing for composite pages. Elements (saved as EPS or TIFF) can be added to each page before sent for output.
4-Up Separated	Will create 4-Up impositions for separated pages. Elements (saved as EPS or TIFF) can be added to each separation before sent for output. The figure show how the setup of the 4-Up separated looks

The Product Extension Modules are developed by Graphic Prepress Solutions only and the specification how to write these modules is not public at the time present.

Plugins

Plugins are add-on software that will enhance existing functions or add new functions. There is no list over existing plugins since they may be created by anyone that knows a bit about programming.
