The Knife was formed in the summer of 1999 when the sister and brother, Karin and Olof Dreijer, made some recordings together. Earlier, Karin played in a band called Honey is Cool. Olof had been working with different music projects. The cooperation worked out fine so they continued with hardware recordings of acoustic instruments mixed with midi and sampler programming. The Knife continued working sporadically until February

2001 when the album “The Knife” was released at their own label, Rabid Records.
The debut album was received with both anger and happiness. Some were furious and didn’t understand anything of it and got quite provoked, while some thought it was what they always had been waiting for. One year later The Knife started working in the studio again.
This time The Knife bought a real microphone, proper cables and a synthesizer, they wanted to do modern music. The first recordings in January 2002 went easily. The first single from the forthcoming album, called “Got 2 Let U” was released. Olof took a break in the spring and produced a groovy hip hop-12” with Calle P, a rapper from Gothenburg. In June when The Knife was about to continue in the studio again, everything went much more slowly. The summer 2002 was warm, long and hard worked. Another project was introduced. Their friend, the artist Peter Eccher, had stories and pictures about sudden blacking of apartments that he wanted The Knife to make music to. The result was released with the monthly literature magazine BLM#5 as a poster and a CD. After the summer The Knife continued working with their album. The temperature outside went down and they could start thinking again. Jenny Wilson from First Floor Power was invited for a lovely duet. The time went on and in the end of October they were ready. “Deep Cuts” was the name given to the album and as second single they chose “Heartbeats”. In November The Knife got another exciting assignment. The director Christina Olofsson had heard about The Knife and wanted them to write music to her new film, “Hanna med H” (Hanna with an H). And that is what they are doing right now, down in the basement composing with their synthesizers and machines. “Deep Cuts” is released January 17th in Sweden. | ||
