No actual HTML pages need to be maintained; all pages are created "on the fly" by the script itself. (2) Easy Maintenance of Multiple Boards: All configuration settings for a given board are contained in that board's configuration file. Any number of boards can be run from a single WebBBS engine, simply by creating separate configuration files and data directories. (3) Full Control of "Behind the Scenes" Operations: The administrator has a wide variety of options available to ensure that a board functions in precisely the manner desired. It can be set to accept posts from anyone or only from the administrator, to automatically "censor" offensive words, to either interpret, display or strip HTML tags included in messages, to automatically quote message text in the response input box, etc. Users can also optionally be granted the ability to include URL links or images with their posts, to preview their messages before posting them, or to include passwords which will allow them to come back and delete their posts later. (4) Flexible Default Display Configuration: The default age of messages displayed in the index, and the default style of that index, can be tailored to the administrator's preference. (WebBBS supports a wide variety of listing styles: chronological lists, threaded lists, compressed "primary messages only" lists, guestbook-style lists, and more.) Additionally, the ability to define BODY tag attributes, headers and footers, and frame usage, allows the administrator to fit the general "look" of the WebBBS pages to that of a site's other pages. (5) Flexible User Display Configuration: Individual users can easily override the default display settings to tailor the message index display to their own tastes. They can also search for specific messages based on date, subject or author. (6) "Cookie" Support: Optional "cookie" support allows a board to recognize return visitors, keep track of messages posted since their previous visit, maintain their personal index display preferences, and automatically insert their names and e-mail addresses into post and response forms. (7) E-Mail Notification Capability: The administrator can choose to allow users to subscribe to receive automatic notification of new messages, either as those messages are posted or via a regularly- generated digest. (Notifications can contain full message text or only header information.) Users can also be allowed to receive automatic notice of responses to their own posts, regardless of whether or not a regular mailing list has been established. And the administrator always has the option of receiving e-mail notices of new posts, even if no one else is allowed to do so. (8) Easy Administration: Messages can be deleted (or moved to a separate archive directory) automatically by the script itself based on message age and/or total number of messages. Individual messages or groups of messages can also be easily edited or deleted by the administrator with an administrative script available to registered users. (9) Easy Integration with WebAdverts: WebBBS is designed to readily support inclusion of WebAdverts-generated banner advertisements.
